Hormonal Skin Harmony — Syncing Your Skincare to Your Cycle

How to Stop Fighting Your Hormones and Start Working With Them

Hey Glow Getters,

Have you ever noticed that your skin is absolutely glowing one week, and then—seemingly overnight—it becomes oily, sensitive, and prone to those deep, painful jawline breakouts?

You aren't doing anything "wrong." You are just experiencing the natural fluctuations of your hormones. As your esthetician, I want to have a "loud" conversation about Hormonal Skin Harmony. We spend so much time fighting our skin during "that time of the month," but what if we started working with our cycle instead of against it?

The 4 Phases of Your Skin Cycle

Your skin changes as your estrogen and progesterone levels rise and fall. Here is what is happening and how to pivot:

Phase 1: Menstrual (Days 1-5) — The Reset

•What's happening: Estrogen and progesterone are at their lowest. Your skin might feel dry, dull, and more sensitive.

•The Pivot: Focus on Hydration & Soothing. Use your rich creams, hydrating masks, and avoid any aggressive treatments. Think of this as your skin's "winter."

Phase 2: Follicular (Days 6-12) — The Glow

•What's happening: Estrogen is rising, collagen production increases, and your skin is at its most resilient.

•The Pivot: This is the time for Actives & Professional Treatments. Your skin can handle retinols, Vitamin C, and chemical peels now. This is the best time to book your more intensive facials!

Phase 3: Ovulatory (Days 13-16) — The Peak

•What's happening: Estrogen peaks and then drops. You might notice a slight increase in oil production.

•The Pivot: Focus on Deep Cleansing. Keep the pores clear to prevent the "plugs" that lead to breakouts in the next phase.

Phase 4: Luteal (Days 17-28) — The Flare

•What's happening: Progesterone rises, which increases sebum (oil) production. This is when the "hormonal acne" usually kicks in.

•The Pivot: Focus on Anti-Inflammatory & Oil Control. Use Niacinamide, gentle salicylic acid, and soothing clay masks. Avoid "picking" at all costs—your skin is more prone to scarring now.

Stop the "Hormonal Acne" Shame

We have been taught to be embarrassed by hormonal breakouts, but they are just a signal from your body. Instead of getting frustrated, use them as a guide. When you understand your cycle, you stop guessing why your skin is acting up and you start giving it exactly what it needs in that moment.

Hormonal skin isn't a problem to be "cured"—it's a system to be understood.
